Who are we? What are we? In a nut shell, we are dancers. What kind of dance do we do? Well, that is the million dollar question of the day! We are what most people consider Tribal Fusion Belly Dancers. What is this? Good Question. The condensed answer is that it is a dance focused on the styles and techniques of Middle Eastern Dance or what is more commonly referred to as belly dance. Middle Eastern Dance was originally a folk dance that people used to celebrate weddings, childbirth, festivals, and other joyous occasions. It was not performed, but was simply a dance that expressed the emotions of the participants. Its main source of movements came from the hips and undulations of the belly. (For a more in dept look at the different styles and origins of Middle Eastern Dance, please check out www.shira.net ) Now, fast forward time and location and add layers of many other influences such as jazz, contemporary, hip hop, ballroom, flamenco and whatever we can get our hands on and it now becomes a fused dance of many cultures that we as a dance community have termed Fusion or Tribal Fusion. In Short: Fusion is about self expression. It is about strength. It is about grace. It is about kindred spirits. It is about movement. It is about combining a passion for all dance. |
